WHAT'S NEW?

Many changes are going on behind-the-scenes in the Donauschwaben Heritage Society:

We opened an online store where you can purchase items featuring the Wappen design on various items with other designs to come. You can find that shop at: www.cafepress.com/donauschwaben/

We are in the process of becoming a non-profit organization complete with a full slate of Officers and a Board of Directors.

We are in the midst of plans for the 2009 Celebration including hotel accommodations, programs, workshops, activities and lots of food.

Mt Angel Oktoberfest

The Mt. Angel Oktoberfest began their Oktoberfest in 1966. Today it is the largest folk/harvest festival in the Northwest with attendance reaching 350,000 for the four day event. The Salem and Mt. Angel areas are home to many people of Donauschwaben descent. Mt. Angel, located approximately 40 south of Portland, was originally settled by German pioneers

The Donauschwaben Heritage Celebration

The roots of this celebration go back to 2000 when a group of West Coast participants in the Banat Mailing List decided to finally meet in person. They chose Mt. Angel as the perfect place for a group of Germans to gather. At the end of that two day event an extended family had been formed and the annual tradition of the Celebration began.
